  1. I have found out that i am not involved with many thing on campus, i am more the kind of guy that would rather go hang out with my friends, have fun and even do homework with them.I dont think being more involved on campus would help me here at columbia college. I can have fun with the people i know and am happy hanging out with them rather than getting out there and finding new people!

  2. As of now I am currently involved in Forensic Science Club, Science Club, and SSS. I also have a job. I don't really do much in Forensic Science Club or Science Club. At the meetings I just listen to the students in charge of everything talk. I don't get much out of the clubs, which is fine by me. I don't really see how the clubs could help me either. It's not like we talk about ways to improve study habits at the meetings, or problems we have been having in our science classes.
I am involved in SSS so I can receive some of the benefits they offer. SSS offers grant money and other things to help make my college experience easier. It's pretty cool because I met all of the requirements to receive a grant from them. I had to go to three workshops that they offered throughout the semester and I had to get involved with two clubs, which I did.
I feel as if I am active and involved enough on campus.

  3. I am currently involved in Pride and I work with the girls soccer team. I am student trainer and I absolutely love what I do. It pushed me to do so many things even though it has nothing to do with academics. I have learned so many different things just by working with the trainers. I have met so many new people by working on campus and especially with athletics. Not only have I met just soccer girls but all different sports teams. I get the oppurtunity to take pride in what I do and It makes me feel so good that I am doing something with my life. Having a job in college is not as important is schooling just because you are paying for an education but I definetly take it seriously. I am pushing myself to do so much more and I feel like I an financailly stable for being a college student. I dont have my parents credit card, I want to do everything on my own while I have the chance to becasue you will go so much farther in life if you have a plan set out.

  4. Right now, I am only involved in one club, and that is Math Club. This club is not really an active club, I don't even know who the president is. We just play scrabble or chess when we go. However, I am very involved with the sports teams here at CC. I love to travel to their games, and go to the home games as well to help cheer them on. I also love hanging out with my friends, which takes up a lot of my time as well. So far, this semester, I have learned a lot about how being involved with too much at once can really influence how well you are doing in the classroom. I like to put friends and sports before homework and sleep, which has put my academics in a place where they shouldn't be. I now understand how I actually need to manage my time, and I am getting out of those bad habits and trying to be too involved to focus more on myself and what it takes to be a better student. Next semester, I will definitely be on a better track, and be more successful here at CC, because I've learned from my mistakes, and now I shall prove myself, to myself, that I can be better.

  5. I am signed up for Collegiate DECA, and history club, but I'm not very active in either. I'm employed at the Admissions office (starting tomorrow 11/29). I think this will help me to become better with my finances as a college student. Now that we have been here for 15 weeks now, I'm starting to realize what’s going to make me successful student at CC and what won't. Now that I know the tricks of the trade, next semester, I want to be more involved with campus activities. I want to be one of those people that make a difference on campus. I think being involved will make me more responsible. It will also help me become a better student.

  6. I am part of the soccer team here, and I go to a lot of the other sporting events here for PRIDE. I feel like being a part of stuff here is a good and bad thing, sometimes they are really distracting and make me put off doing some of my work. Being a part of it though lets me meet more and more people which is a really good thing! I also hang out with my friends a lot, which I like because we will get together and do homework a lot of the time! I think that I have figured out a way to schedule my time and get everything done, while also being able to do a lot of the stuff that I want to do.

  7. I am currently part of the golf team, the criminal justice club, the math club, and pride. I have participated in a few community events our school has offered such as the poverty simulation. I also have attended music concerts, even though they are mandatory for my music appreciation class, they have given me a neat experience to look back on.
Playing golf has helped me tremendously in school and out. Our coaches are very strict and expect a lot from every team member. We set individual and team goals before the season and every Wednesday nights we have two hours of study hall, whether you have good or bad grades. Our coaches also keep track of our attendance. If we miss class or are late to study hall we have a 6am conditioning practice, and if it continues we will get dismissed from the team. Because we meet every week, I have been able to bond with my teammates and build relationships.
The criminal justice club has helped me with my major. So far, there has only been one event for this club. We went to the Jefferson City Prison and it was a really awesome experience. I got to meet some of the inmates and see everything they do and how they live. I learned that there are a lot of men in prison, most of those who are doing life sentences, who are trying to do better and give back to the victims and community in which they ruined. They have programs that help inmates become a new person. It was really inspiring listening to some of the men talk about the things they did and the way they have changed.
I would like to deepen my involvement at Columbia College next semester or at least by next year. I would like to get a job on campus so I will try to do that at semester.

  8. Currently, I am involved in a few clubs. I am a member of the International Club, Columbia College Republicans, a book club, Creative Writing Club (inactive), and now the Emerging Leaders Institute. I'm also considering being a Peer Mentor.

I was extremely involved in high school, and loved it, but didn't know how much I wanted to stretch my time in college. Right now, I feel like I am at the perfect amount of activities and I feel like I'm really benefitting from each one. I came from a town with no diversity, which is exactly why I love International Club. I feel like I've opened up a lot to other people and cultures because of it. I really enjoy being a part of the Republicans club because I'm continually strengthening my own beliefs and learning how to support what I stand for. I really wish Creative Writing Club was active, since it is my major and I would get to talk to people with those interests, but I am glad I joined a book club. We haven't met yet, but I have talked to some fellow club members already and really connected with people I didn't earlier. I'm now a member of ELI, which I know I will enjoy immensely, because I love being a community leader. I just got back from my induction, and I can already tell I'm going to enjoy working with the other members. I know it will strengthen my leadership skills and help me find my place in the Columbia community.

Having academic requirements that I can't compromise, I am wary to become too involved in activities. My grades come first, so even though I love being involved, I know that this will be as involved as I get. I don't like being stretched too thin, and that's why I'll most likely stay away from holding offices in organizations and such. I like where I am right now and feel like I'm benefitting from my activities.

  9. Currently I am a part of Collegiate DECA and International Club. I could be more involved in International Club, but I feel like I am an active member of DECA. We have been working on fundraising and that has been a fun learning opportunity. Joining these clubs helped me meet a ton of new people and make new friends.

I am also a member of Student Support Services, which has been a fun experience. Some of the workshops were very informative, and one of the networking events gave me good ideas of what to do after college. I volunteer off campus, and that has also kept me busy.

I love helping others, so I will strive to do so here at Columbia College in the future. I am planning on becoming a Peer Mentor as well, and I believe that will give me a great opportunity to help students.

  10. Currently I fight every day to keep my scholarship because with out it I would not be here. I am not really involved in much of any thing that doesn't involve basketball. This is not my choice so I try to jump into and be helpful in events involving club and groups of campus life i know. I work the food bank with the leadership floor and another volunteer organization on campus. joining these activities always makes me wish I could afford to me an active member of the club/organization.
I have actually tried to enter into many different student based thing in attempt to expand my experience at columbia college. I have be quite unsuccessful thus far but one can never stop trying. I've found that a full ride doesn't equal a free ride. At least five hours six days a week goes into Basketball and this reminds me again how precious time really is.

  11. I have discovered that I have interest in many things but only take part in a few things, being: Employment on campus, Exploring a different faith and Using writing, photography and other art outside of the classroom (however less frequently than i used to for art...)

I have interest in performing arts, community service, interacting with people who have diverse backgrounds, managing finances, etc. A few of the things on the list of threes are included on my list of things either that I have not had time/funds for or on the list of things I "Haven't gotten around to yet".

I feel as though I could be more involved on campus; though it's against my nature to be entirely TOO involved. I appreciate my solitude. I do however, feel that this does not impact my studies or grades. Procrastination is my problem; not involvement in my opinion and so it will have to be personal habits that need fixing rather than outside influences.

  12. I am sorry that I did not post yesterday like I was instructed. I got busy studying and helping my friends with their homework. However, I am going to post now, even if it won't mean anything for this class, but for something I wish to express.

My involvement on campus revolves around the things that I feel supply more knowledge to me or give me information that I might find useful or helpful in my future classes or goals after college. My goals like many people require a lot of studying and practice.

I have interest in computer science and linguistics. I love discussing complex and interesting topics with those who are much more knowledgeable than I. I love receiving and learning more information from them. Such as my professors. I love to talk to my professors outside of class as much possible as well as tutors. I will search for new problems to solve and ask them for help if I cannot solve the problem on my own.

I like to help my roommate with his homework, because he is here in America to study English, which is one of my interests, the study of language, and how people learn languages. In fact, I enjoy studying his native language as well as a couple of other languages. Recently, I thought that I could try to contact the professors of the ESOL classes and ask if I could do a class visit to see how they are teaching English to the non-natives, and get some ideas.

I also like to talk to my other Chinese and Korean friends, and even try to speak to them in their own language. They really appreciate my effort and encourage me to keep trying until I can hold a decent conversation with them. I am hoping that this language study will help me to see different methods of not only learning language, but teaching it. After I become proficient in each, I hope to try to study how these languages relate despite their differences.

So, I have not changed my interests, but through talking to my professors, and helping my roommate and interacting with those who are not native to English and trying to speak and study how their language works, and going to the library I have started to zone in on how I can combine my two interests.
