"Modern education is premised strongly on materialistic values. It is vital that when educating our children’s brains that we do not neglect to educate their hearts, a key element of which has to be the nurturing of our compassionate nature." - Dalai Lama

Week 14

If you were writing a history of Columbia College AFTER you graduate, what would you call it?  Why?  What role would you play in the story?

  1. If I were writing a history of Columbia College after I graduated, I would call it "We Went For Greater." I would call it this because first, our slogan is go for greater, and that is a big part of this college. This slogan is something that I have heard many times through my college experience here at CC. I think this title is appropriate because at CC you don't just get a degree for showing up to class. You have to do more than just the requirement to succeed. I know in my field, we have to do field experience, so we know that this is the right degree for us. Also, this school isn't about just getting by, but going beyond what is put before you. Columbia College expects greater things from their students.
My role in this would be a student of course. I hope that I could be an example of a CC student going above and beyond to obtain their degree, and achieving that "greater" status. I want to make the best of my time here, and use every resource I can to make myself a better person, so when I am in the professional world, I too can be seen as "greater" there as well.

  2. I suppose that, after i graduated, i would title it "A Fresh Start". I would use this title because first of all, i did NOT like the way my life was going prior to college; primarily with the social aspects of my life. I had no job and couldn't get one. Now all of a sudden, im in college and im employed, and i quickly made friends with both people similar to me and others that are greatly different. I'm taking classes that i actually enjoy and there's a smile on my face practically every day; and i guess that pretty much sums up my role in the story now doesn't it?

The title would also be appropriate because of its message. College, especially with the accepting environment here at CC; is a place where people can start anew, where practically nobody has the false impression that they even remotely know you. As a student starting at CC you can make a fresh start and make things better for yourself in more ways than you originally thought were open to you.

  3. I would call it "The New Beginning," because it is a beginning of something we have never experienced before. A lot of students entering into any college are just now getting to make their own decisions. They are starting a new life.

In a school like this, it is actually not so bad. At least in my experience, there are many great things to appreciate and enjoy here.
